I began working with HP Homecare 15 years ago. I’d returned part time to study and wanted part time work to support that. Turns out the course of study I was pursuing (Cultural studies) was actually informed by the varied clients I worked with through HP. Depending on each client’s needs, one day I can be a companion accompanying a client to lunch, then supervising a client with daily post op exercises or chaperoning a client to and from clinics for appointments to encouraging clients to eat a healthy diet and assisting them to prepare healthy food and stay hydrated. It’s such a ‘mixed bag’ which personally is perfect as I like the variety and meeting different people and I find I’m using pretty much all of my academic qualifications, social and creative skills daily. The working hours are flexible and in-house training is ongoing which is reassuring and maintains that element of professionalism expected by the often high profile clients we work with.
